Zircon in Microcline

Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey

3.54cm x 2.85cm x 1.85cm

Ex. Howard Belsky Collection

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of zircon from Franklin!!! This specimen hosts several crystals of zircon in a matrix of microcline in association with other unidentified species!!! The main crystal is complete and sharply terminated!!! The crystal has sharp, lustrous faces with dark brownish red color!!! The crystal measures .8cm!!! Examples of zircon such as this are quite scarce in Franklin!!! This specimen is from the personal collection of Howard Belsky and retains its original personal collection label!!! There is an additional, unattributed label that seems to make mention that the specimen is from the Trotter Mine at Franklin!!! Old material!!! The zircon crystals show mild yellowish-orange fluorescence under SW UV!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
