Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, classic combination specimen from Franklin!!! This specimen hosts an incredible showing of crystallized native copper in combination with intense orange red zincite crystals!!!
The zincite and copper crystals are paired with
translucent, lustrous blades of barite in a matrix of massive yellowish to tan willemite and franklinite!!! The
native copper is present as complex crystalline forms jutting from the matrix and broad, complexly crystalline face partially covered by dark red zincite!!!
There is a brilliantly metallic, iridescent area of copper that hosts several intense red crystals of cuprite as well - there are also some coatings of
red microcrystalline cuprite on the copper elsewhere as well!!! The zincite is present as sharp, complex modified octahedral crystals!!! The
zincite is very gemmy and has choice intense orange red color!!! The zincite is much more crystalline than the pics show - as it is difficult to capture the
highly complex crystals in the pics!!! There are small but finely crystallized examples of zincite scattered throughout the specimen as well!!! The
barite (as it is described by the previous label) is present as white (or VERY pale pinkish in areas) translucent crystalline sheets throughout the specimen!!! This
material fluoresces a slightly bluish color, however it is difficult to disecern due to the proximity to the intensely fluorescent willemite!!!
There are veins and masses of native copper all throughout this specimen and the broad face of copper is not merely a thin sheet of native copper, but rather a substantial, rigid mass of
native copper!!! This is a killer old timer indeed!!! Upon close inspection in person there is a LOT more going on with this specimen than the pictures show (the previous label mentions some
hendricksite as well, however if there is, it must be in very minor association or otherwise inconspicuous)!!! This specimen is WAY better than
the pics show!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
