Ilmenite var. Washingtonite on Albite var. Oligoclase

101st St., near Lexington Ave., Manhattan, New York City, New York

4.7cm x 2.2cm x 1.76cm

Ex. Frederick Braun (1844-1918)

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of ilmenite var. washingtonite from NEW YORK CITY!!! This specimen consists of thin, platy crystals of ilmenite var. washingtonite on a matrix of albite var. oligoclase!!! There also appears to be a small amount of somewhat massive, greenish epidote in association as well!!! This specimen is from the collection of Frederick Braun!!! Braun operated a shop on Crosby St. in New York City be between 1889 and 1894 and this specimen dates to this time!!! This specimen was part of a pair of specimens (matching halves actually) that we sold a few weeks ago - while this specimen does not retain a label, a digital copy can be provided upon request!!! Rare, old time New York City specimens are quite scarce and highly sought after!!! Don't miss out!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
