Vauxite

Siglo Veinte Mine, Llallagua, Rafael Bustillo Province, Potosi Department, Bolivia

4cm x 2cm x 1.5cm

Ex. Reynolds McConnell Denning (1916-1967)

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum #RMD-95

Description/Interesting Notes:

A terrific example of this rare and sought after species from Bolivia!!! This is classic, old time material dating to the 1940's!!! Vauxite specimens are almost always seen as isolated crusts with no associated matrix!!! Examples of vauxite crystals on matrix are quite scarce indeed!!! This specimen consists of a sculptural matrix that hosts numerous, discrete crystals of intensely colored vauxite!!! Upon close inspection one can see that vauxite crystals are present as balls of intergrown bladed crystals with lustrous faces and marked translucence!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and has the catalogue designation from the collection of Reynolds McConnell Denning (1916-1967) who worked at the Siglo Viente Mine during World War II and later donated an extensive collection of Bolivian minerals to the museum in 1952!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
