Tremolite var. Hexagonite

St. Joe Mine, Balmat, St. Lawrence Co., New York

2.07cm x 1.5cm x .62cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A fantastic example of this rare tremolite varietal from New York!!! This specimen consists of a sharp, single crystal of purple hexagonite!!! Usually hexagonite specimens consist of densely intergrown, almost fibrous masses of thin crystals that are nearly impossible to trim or extract crystals from!!! Single, isolated crystals like this one are quite uncommon!!! As is typical of this material, the crystal is not terminated, however the crystal does have sharp, lustrous faces and marked clarity!!! The color is a handsome light purple with pinkish tones depending on the lighting!!! The crystal appears to exhibit some marked color change depending on the lighting and exhibits significant pleochroism as well!!! Old material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
