Sugilite Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa 16.23cm x 4.39cm x 4cm 470 grams

Description/Interesting Notes: A terrific example of this esteemed and colorful species!!! This specimen consists of a large piece of massive, stratified layers of "gel" sugilite and dark black manganese-rich matrix!!! For some reason, it is very difficult for the digital camera to "see" sugilite as the human eye does - many of the pictures show it as being a magenta-pinkish purple color, however it is most certainly a royal violet in person!!! Again, just to reiterate, the color of the sugilite is VIOLET in person, not pinkish purple!!! The layers between the sugilite are also much darker in person, being either brownish black or jet-black!!! This specimen is a terrific piece of rough, or just a great specimen as is!!!
