Smithsonite var. Dry Bone

Missouri

5.83cm x 4.73cm x 2.3cm

Ex. Michigan College of Mines No. 5411

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum #DM-13713

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare and unusual, old time example of "dry bone" smithsonite from Missouri!!! This specimen is comprised almost entirely of smithsonite that exhibits a most peculiar form!!! The specimen has an almost organic, or fossil-like appearance (although it is not)!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or a scope, one can acually see that this material is made up of tiny smithsonite crystals that actually have marked velveteen luster as well!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains an old label from the Michigan College of Mines!!! This specimen also retains its original antique museum specimen box as well!!! This is old material that likely dates to the 19th century!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY OCTOBER 27th!!!
