Native Silver with Safflorite

Deer Horn Mine, Cobalt area, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada

10.4cm x 5.55cm x 3.6cm

331 grams

Ex. John J. Durkos Collection

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rich, old time example of native silver and safflorite from this classic Cobalt locale!!! This specimen consists of a very rich network of native silver crystals, covered by sparkling crystals of safflorite in association with some calcite matrix!!! The native silver is present as a dendritic network of crystals as well as intergrown sheets of native silver!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope one can see sharply formed crystal faces of native silver poking through the coverage of tiny metallic safflorite crystals!!! This specimen is quite rich and weighs a hefty 331 grams!!! This specimen retains a very detailed notecard from the John Durkos collection that notes it was acquired "from Vince Arney in N. Cobalt in July, 1962"!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
