Selenite after Calcite with Melanterite on Sphalerite & Chalcopyrite

Mid-Continent Mine, Treece, Picher Field, Tri-State District, Cherokee Co., Kansas

8.4cm x 6.74cm x 5cm

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of this amazing combination from this famed district!!! This specimen hosts a doubly terminated calcite crystal that has been replaced by gympsum and melanterite prominently perched atop a matrix of large, complex sphalerite crystals studded with small chalcopyrite crystals!!! There is also a second smaller pseudomorphic crystal in association as well!!! These old pseudomorphic combos are quite scarce indeed!!! Upon close inspection one can see the individual crystals of gypsum and tiny crystals of melanterite (which are present both within and on the gypsum)!!! This specimen is a magnificent example of this rare occurence and displays gorgeously in person!!! Simply a killer old time rarity!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
