Samarskite with Autunite

Spruce Pine District, Mitchell Co., North Carolina

6.35cm x 3.5cm x 1.3cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A fantastic example of samarskite from Spruce Pine!!! This specimen consists of a large, complex partial crystal of samarskite in association with autunite!!! The crystals exhibits some sharp faces and terminations and there are numerous tiny crusts of yellow autunite scattered across the specimen!!! For some reason, the camera couldn't capture them very well, however the little crusts of yellow autunite are much more apparent in person!!! We acquired this specimen from the Belmont Abbey College Collection (although it does not retain a label) and this was the largest samarskite in the group!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
