A fantastic example of this famous species from what was at one time North America's only commercial diamond mine. Located at an 8000ft elevation high in the Rocky Mountains near the Colorado state line. The mine opened in 1996 and was only in operation for a short few years before going bankrupt in 2000. I recently had the pleasure of meeting an 86 year old self-proclaimed "desert rat" that has spent the better part of his later years roaming the Southwest in search of minerals and artifacts. This gentleman was at one time friends with one of the mine's operators who had given him just five small diamonds from the operation. Fortunately I was able to get my hands on one in trade. This crystal is a complex octahdral crystal with great luster and a somewhat smoky, gemmy to translucent clarity. A handsome example from a very seldom represented locale.
