Rhodochrosite with Pyrite

Oppu mine, Nishimeya-mura, Naka-Tsugaru-gun, Aomori Prefecture, Tohoku Region, Honshu Island, Japan

8.6cm x 6.4cm x 2.5cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A classic, old time example of rhodochrosite from Japan!!! This specimen consists of a gorgeous plate of richly colored, translucent pink rhodochrosite crystals in association with scattered crystals of pyrite!!! While the rhodochrosite has a botryoidal appearance, upon close inspection one can see that the balls are comprised of small, well defined crystals!!! The rhodochrosite has fantastic color and an almost glowing translucence!!! The pyrite crystals have brilliant, brassy metallic luster and are both perched on the rhodochrosite crystals and embedded within them!!! This specimen is absolutely gorgeous in person!!! Classic, old time material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
