Rhodochrosite with Pyrite

John Reed Mine, Alicante, Leadville District, Lake Co., Colorado

12.9cm x 9cm x 7.2cm

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum #DM-5079

Description/Interesting Notes:

A terrific, old time example of rhodochrosite from this seldom referenced Colorado locale!!! This specimen consists of a large mass of rhodochrosite in association with pyrite and quartz!!! The rhodochrosite has rich pink color and areas of marked translucence!!! Upon close inspection there are several small vugs and intergrown crystals!!! There are numerous pyrite crystals with sharp cubic form and brilliant metallic luster!!! These old time rhodochrosites from the John Reed Mine are quite scarce indeed!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains its old affixed catalogue number as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 28th!!!
