Rhodochrosite with Quartz, Pyrite, & Sphalerite

Leadville, Leadville District, Lake Co., Colorado

10.4cm x 5.6cm x 4.45cm

Ex. Frederick W. Engel Collection

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of rhodochrosite from Colorado!!! These old time Leadville area rhodochrosite specimens are quite scarce indeed!!! This specimen consists of a matrix loaded with darkly colored sphalerite crystals and sharp quartz crystals that hosts numerous areas of complexly intergrown rhodochrosite crystals and areas of golden pyrite crystals!!! This specimen displays quite handsomely in person!!! This specimen retains an old label from the Engel Collection that is dated July 22, 1957 and notes that it was acquired at the "Dixie Gold Mill"!!! Rare locality material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 22nd!!!
