Opalized Wood (Precious Opal)

Virgin Valley District, Humboldt Co., Nevada

7.4cm x 4.8cm x 4.16cm

Ex. Percy A. Foster Collection (1889-1968)

Description/Interesting Notes:

A fantastic, old time example of precious opalized wood from the famed Virgin Valley!!! This specimen consists of a thick portion of opalized wood that retains some detailed opalized bark on its broad side!!! The opal exhibits a smooth, cream colored core followed by a thin darkly colored zone and then near colorless, transparent rind (the bark portion)!!! This colorless portion of the specimen hosts a dramatic showing of electric blue fire with highlights of purples and greens!!! The fire is much more pronounced and dynamic in person!!! This specimen is from the collection of Percy A. Foster (b. 1889) and retains its original label as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 31st!!!
