Maslovite

Rustenburg Mine, Rustenburg District, Western Bushveld Complex, North West Province, South Africa

3cm x 2.45cm x 2.06cm

Ex. J. Cilen Collection No. 15,121

Description/Interesting Notes:

A fantastic example of this very rare platinum bearing species from South Africa!!! This specimen consists of a characteristic pyroxene matrix that hosts numerous significant masses of maslovite!!! Maslovite is a very rare platinum bismuth telluride and is present as grayish-silver metallic masses scattered throughout the matrix!!! One can see the masses of maslovite on the polished face of the specimen as well as on the natural faces of the specimen!!! This is a particularly rich example of the species, with numerous significant masses throughout (there may be some other related rare PGM species present upon further study as well!)!!! This specimen retains an old catalogue number from the J. Cilen collection as well as a previous Gharske label as well!!! Rare material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
