Marshite & Cuprite with Native Copper Chuquicamata Mine, Chuquicamata District, Calama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile 4.25cm x 3cm x 2.3cm Ex. Tony Nikischer Collection

Description/Interesting Notes: An incredible example of this very rare copper iodide from Chile!!! Let me start off by saying that this specimen is way, WAY better than these pictures show!!! This specimen is a gorgeous cluster of sharply crystallized native copper crystals in association with deep red cuprite that hosts a very rich showing of microcrystalline marshite that richly covers the specimen's broad face!!! The native copper crystals that host most of the marshite microcrystals are somewhat blade-like upon close inspection!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can see that the marshite crystals are present as tannish, translucent crystals that show unusually elongated forms - in some cases looking like stacked pyramids!!! In addition to the tannish colored crystals, some of the marshite crystals host inclusions of cuprite which gives them a bright orange color as well!!! The native copper crystals are very fine and the cuprite is quite striking as well!!! This is a killer example of this very rare species!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer and retains its original personal collection label!!!
