Description/Interesting Notes: An absolutely extraordinary, old time example of malachite from this rare Canadian locale!!! This is a very significant Canadian malachite indeed!!! Specimens from this locality are extremely scarce and this is an extraordinary, museum-quality example indeed!!! This specimen hosts a broad face almost completely covered in thick, dramatically "bubbly" botryoidal malachite that has rich, deep green color and outstanding lapidary grade quality!!! The matrix is comprised of somewhat massive, partially altered magnetite that is diagnostic of the locality!!! Upon close inspection one can see some small but well formed crystals of magnetite (as well as some the remnants of altered pseudomorphs as well)!!! The malachite is very hard and dense - lapidary quality material that shows an attractive, high luster!!! There are multiple layers of malachite that exhibit markedly different hues of lighter green and dramatically darker green!!! The very "bubbly" nature of tbe botryoids shows dynamic surface relief that, combined with the varying shades of green, makes for a very aesthetic specimen indeed!!! This specimen is from the collection of J.H. Marshall and retains his original label, affixed catalogue number, and corresponding detailed notecard!!! The label notes that it was acquired in February, 1972 at "Ronson's Lapidary" in Montreal!!! The label goes on to note that Mr. Ronson said it was collected in the 1930s and was the only one he's had, and also notes "have never seen another piece from this area"!!! Not only is this is a very significant Canadian specimen, it is simply gorgeous as well!!! You do not want to miss out on this rare and valuable old timer!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
