Leadhillite

Beer Cellar Mine, Granby Field, Tri-State District, Newton Co., Missouri

5.87cm x 4.75cm x 3.36cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of leadhillite from Missouri!!! This specimen hosts an area of complex, lustrous leadhillite crystals in association with some galena on a cherty matrix!!! The leadhillite crystals are much more significant and well formed than the pictures show!!! The leadhillite crystals have some slight translucence and an almost pearlescent luster!!! These old time Beer Cellar Mine leadhillites are next to impossible to obtain!!! This material dates to the 19th century and is very scarce indeed!!! Interestingly, a small area of matrix on the reverse exhibits a small area of fossilized coral!!! This specimen retains an old label from Forrest Cureton as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 19th!!!
