Kaolinite pseudomorph after Orthoclase

North Goonbarrow China Clay Pit, Bugle, Treverbyn, St Austell District, Cornwall, England

9.76cm x 6.12cm x 2.76cm

Ex. J. Cilen Collection No. 11,798

Description/Interesting Notes:

A large and impressive old time example of kaolinite after orthoclase from Cornwall!!! This specimen consists of a group of several intergrown, twinned orthoclase crystals that have been completely replaced by kaolinite!!! This specimen is complete and in fantastic condition all around!!! The crystals exhibit characteristic twinning and have sharply defined features!!! This large and impressive old time pseudomorph displays fantastically in person!!! These unique pseudomorphs were known to miner's as "pigs' eggs" (although I am not sure why this is)!!! This specimen retains an old label from the Joe Cilen collection as well!!! Classic material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 19th!!!
