Uraninite

Portugal

6cm x 5cm x 2.6cm

Ex. Alexandre-Charles Besson (1725-1809)

Ex. Sorbonne Mineral Museum (acquired 1898)

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare and historic old time example of uraninite from Portugal!!! This specimen likely dates to the 1700's and came from the collection of Alexandre-Charles Besson (1725-1809)!!! Besson was a prolific French naturalist and was Inspector of Mines!!! This specimen hosts a significant mass of black uraninite in association with an unidentified bright yellow species!!! The label describes the associated species as a probable oxysulfate of uranium - "probablement oxysulphure d'Uranium"!!! This specimen retains an old, handscripted label from the Sorbonne Mineral Museum that is dated 1898 and notes that the specimen is from the collection of Alexandre-Charles Besson (1725-1809)!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JUNE 28th!!!
