Native Gold with Turquoise

Los Cerrillos, Cerrillos District, Santa Fe Co., New Mexico

5.24cm x 4.82cm x 2.73cm

Ex. American Museum of Natural History

Description/Interesting Notes:

An ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE example of GEM turquoise and NATIVE GOLD!!! This specimen consists of an extraordinary mass of choice, AAA quality gem turquoise that hosts an impressive showing of bright, buttery yellow native gold both on its surfaces and included within!!! This is an extraordinary example of this very rare combination from this famed historic locality!!! The pictures do not capture the rich, choice turquoise color of this specimen - it is WAY better in person!!! The turquoise is very hard and dense (although the antique museum label refers to it as a "turquoise clay") - it is of such quality that it is quite impressive in its own right!!! The native gold is much more signficant and apparent than the pictures convey as well!!! In person the gold can be seen to be much more plentiful, as all of the minute grains that are richly scattered throughout areas of the turquoise show up in bright contrast to the intensely colored turquoise!!! While there are numerous significant masses of brilliant native gold prominently exposed on the surfaces, one can see that there is a signficant amount of native gold partially and fully included within the turquoise as well!!! This specimen is almost entirely comprised of solid gem turquoise with only a small amount of matrix in association!!! It appears that this impressive nodule of turquoise was partially encapsulated in native gold, as the gold appears to be primarily located where the turquoise would have come in contact with its matrix in situ!!! This specimen is one of the most extraordinary specimens I have had the pleasure of offering this year!!! While I have read about these amazing old time rarities, I had never dreamed I'd find one!!! This is a rare and valuable treasure indeed, and one of those "once in a lifetime" specimens - so don't miss out!!! This specimen retains an old display label from the American Museum of Natural History as well!!! An extraordinary specimen with outstanding provenance as well!!! It doesn't get any better!!! In a word... amazing!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY DECEMBER 15th!!!
