Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent example of native gold from this unique locality!!! Nearly every example of native gold from this locality is
an alluvial, floater crystal with no associated matrix!!! However, not only is this a matrix specimen - it is
an example of native gold with quartz crystals serving as the matrix!!! This specimen consists of a group of
highly translucent quartz crystals intergrown with a rich showing of brilliant, buttery yellow native gold!!! Although
this is a cluster of crystals, the specimen
is actually still alluvial and exhibits characteristic alluvial features as well!!! Upon
close inspection with a loupe or scope one can see some very interesting details indeed!!! The native gold is actually present as highly compact
masses of finely crystallized native gold (you can actually see that the gold has a network of tiny, jig-saw puzzle-like
crystal faces)!!! In addition one can see numerous areas where the native gold is actually intergrown and included
within the translucent quartz!!! One can also see that the quartz crystals show areas where similarly crystalline native gold
was once embedded in the surface of the quartz crystals, leaving tiny, characteristic contacts!!! The quartz crystals
are highly translucent and much more defined than the pics show!!! Additionally, the native gold mirrors the form of the
quartz crystals - which almost gives the appearance of the gold replacing quartz crystals!!! This is a VERY unique and
unusual specimen for the locality!!! We had a friend dealing directly with the miners at this locality
in the hopes of getting a matrix specimen and, after several YEARS, we were finally able to acquire one!!! Examples of native
gold on matrix are extremely rare from this locality (and this one was singularly unique)!!! The gold from this find
is remarkably pure as well, with some crystals assaying at 99.6% pure!!! Simply an outstanding example of native gold from
this unique locality!!!
