Natie Gold

Rhyolite, near Beatty, Bullfrog District, Nye Co., Nevada

8.7cm x 6.3cm x 5.6cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of native gold from this historic Nevada locale!!! This specimen consists of a rhyolite matrix (for which the locality is named) that hosts numerous tiny but fine crystals of native gold on its surface!!! While the crystals are submillimeter sized, they are eye visible and have brilliant metallic luster!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope however, the crystals are very impressive indeed - consisting of sharp, discrete crystals scattered about the matrix!!! The crystal exhibit some very sharply defined forms ranging from sharp octahedral crystals, rare cubic crystals, modified crystals, and highly complex forms as well!!! This specimen dates to the turn of the 20th century, during a short-lived gold rush that lasted just a few short years and left Rhyolite to become a ghost town not long afterwards!!! Rare old time material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
