Native Gold

Argonaut Mine, Jackson, Jackson-Plymouth District, Amador Co., California

9.23cm x 6.46cm x 3.75cm

Ex. Robert E. Jenkins II Collection No. 3140

Description/Interesting Notes:

An old time example of native gold from this seldom referenced California locality!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix with complex, altered, limonite-stained faces that host scattered tiny masses of native gold!!! Upon close inspection, one can find several areas of small but eye-visible gold scattered across the specimen!!! With a scope or loupe, there are many more submillimeter masses of native gold to be found as well!!! Specimens from this locality - the site of a tragic mine accident that left 47 miners dead in 1922 - are very scarce indeed!!! This specimen retains an old label from the personal collection of Bob Jenkins!!! Bob had a significant and impressive collection of native gold specimens from historic and rare localities!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
