Malachite on Fluorite

Cave-in-Rock, Cave-in-Rock Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois

3.63cm x 2.62cm x 2.14cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare example of malachite on fluorite from this famous locality!!! This specimen consists of a complex single crystal of fluorite in association with lively green malachite!!! The fluorite crystal has rich purple color and complexly stepped cubic faces!!! There are actually numerous crystals of chalcopyrite that have been replaced by limonite present as well!!! The malachite is present as fibrous crystals, balls, and crusts that cover the chalcopyrite crystals!!! This specimen came from a small single find of material that exhibited a significant amount of malachite in association - a mineral that is otherwise rare at this locality!!! This specimen is in fantastic condition all around and displays quite handsomely!!! Quite colorful and showy in person!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
