Algodonite with Domeykite ("Whitneyite")

Mohawk Mine, Mohawk, Keweenaw Co., Michigan

11.5cm x 5.9cm x 3.5cm

971 grams

Ex. Tony Nikischer Collection No. 573

Description/Interesting Notes:

A large and impressive "nugget" of rare algodonite and domeykite from Michigan!!! This specimen consists of a large, dark brassy mass of algodonite and domeykite that weighs nearly 1kg!!! This specimen shows a deep, dark brassy metallic luster throughout!!! Upon close inspection, one can see significant differences in hue throughout the specimen, ranging from a silvery tin-white to a warm golden brassy hue!!! In some small areas it almost appears there may be some native silver in association and possibly some native copper!!! This specimen is WAY better than the pics show!!! A large and impressive old time example of this rare species from Michigan!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1st!!!
