Andradite var. Demantoid Garnet with Serpentine

Malenco Valley, Sondrio Province, Lombardy, Italy

8.5cm 6.35cm x .8cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A classic example of demantoid garnet from Italy!!! This specimen consists of a plate of serpentine matrix that hosts several pristine, gem crystals of green demantoid garnet!!! The matrix is comprised both of hard "noble" serpentine and fibrous, asbestiform serpentine!!! I must say that the demantoid garnet crystals are green in person - not yellow like the pics show!!! There are two pictures below that were taken under full-spectrum daylight fluorescent lighting - these pictures are closer to the actual color the crystals appear in sunlight!!! The crystals are gemmy, sharp, and pristine all around!!! Classic old time material!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
