Datolite with Gmelinite

Great Notch, Little Falls Township, Passaic Co., New Jersey

8.26cm x 5.45cm x 3.06cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

An old time example of datolite being replaced by gmelinite from this historic New Jersey locale!!! This specimen consists of a cluster of large, complex datolite crystals that show significant alteration to salmon colored gmelinite!!! The crystals are sharp, lustrous, and undamaged!!! The datolite crystals have some highly complex features that have razor-sharp detail and brilliantly glassy luster!!! The datolite crystals exhibit significant translucence yet there are a few smaller crystals scattered about that show no gmelinite and are gem-clear!!! Upon close inspection in person, it appears that the alteration to gmelinite is somewhat selective, beginning at the mid-line of the individual crystals!!! This specimen is quite handsome in person!!! This is OLD New Jersey material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
