Cassiterite

Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia

5.58cm x 4.63cm x 2.8cm

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum No. DM-6420

Description/Interesting Notes:

A unique, old time example of cassiterite from this seldom referenced locality!!! This curious speicmen consists of a network of rounded cassiterite crystals frozen in a matrix of what appears to be massive, microcrystalline cassiterite!!! The rounded crystals of cassiterite are darkly colored although some show lighter highlights with some translucence as well!!! The brownish colored matrix surrounding the rounded crystals appears to be cassiterite as well, but it is massive, very fine grained material of comprarable heft and hardness!!! It is basically a "cement" of cassiterite!!! Very curious, OLD time material!!! This specimen dates to the early 1900's and retains an old label from the A.E. Seaman Museum as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
