Calcite

Lincoln Tunnel, Weehawken, New Jersey

7.85cm x 7.8cm x 2.58cm

Ex. Walter E. Kuenstler Collection (1887-1969)

Ex. Tony Nikischer Collection

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare locality example of calcite from the Lincoln Tunnel!!! This specimen consists of a cluster of complex calcite crystals that is from the construction of the Lincoln Tunnel that connects New Jersey (Weehawkin) to New York City!!! The calcite crystals are present as complex crystals that show a combination of stout scalenohedral and rhombehedral forms with some crystals showing complex twinning as well!!! This specimen retains an old label from the Walter E. Kuenstler Collection (1887-1969) as well!!! Specimens from this historic locale are quite scarce indeed!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
