Azurite on Quartz

Virneberg Mine (St Josephsberg Mine), Rheinbreitbach, Linz am Rhein, Westerwald, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

4.65cm x 3.78cm x 1.8cm

Ex. Dr. A. Krantz (label circa 1850-1870's)
Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum #DM-14245,
Ex. Michigan College of Mines No. 6032

Description/Interesting Notes:

An old, rare locality example of azurite from Germany!!! The Virneberg was an ancient copper mine that ultimately closed in 1872!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that hosts a significant showing of bright blue, delicately bladed crystals of azurite!!! There is also a small bit of lightly colored malachite on one edge as well!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains its original old label and glass-lined museum specimen box!!! In addition, this specimen retains an old Michigan College of Mines label and as well as an old (circa 1850-1870's) Dr. A. Krantz label!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
