Andradite var. Melanite Garnet

(Balls Hill), Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey

7.43cm x 4.9cm x 3.7cm

Ex. A. E. Foote

Ex. Michigan College of Mines No. 8024,
A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum #DM-13751

Description/Interesting Notes:

A fantastic, old time example of andradite garnet from this famed New Jersey locale!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of sharp, brilliantly lustrous crystals of andradite garnet on matrix!!! The crystals are quite sharp and well formed!!! The crystals have very dark color that shows some reddish highlights within!!! Although the labels simply list the locale as Franklin, this specimen is almost certainly from Balls Hill at Franklin!!! This specimen retains an old Michigan College of Mines (A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum) label as well as an affixed A.E. Foote label as well!!! Fantastic old time material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
