Sillimanite after Andalusite

Campbell Co., Virginia

11.4cm x 9.44cm x 9.3cm

Ex. University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum #3931

Description/Interesting Notes:

A terrific, large crystal of andalusite from Virginia!!! This specimen consists of a large crystal of andalusite that has been replaced by intergrown crystals of sillimanite, in addition to some kyanite as well!!! Upon close inspection, one can see the intergrown crystals of sillimanite throughout the large, blocky crystal!!! There is also a significant showing of slightly pearlescent kyanite as well!!! It also appears that a small amount of andalusite still present as well!!! This large and unique specimen displays quite handsomely in person!!! This specimen is from the University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum and retains an old label and affixed catalogue number as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 15th!!!
