Anatase on Muscovite

Cleveland Co., North Carolina

8.62cm x 6cm x 3.5cm

Ex. Florence Mecke Collection No. 419-A

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare, old time example of anatase from North Carolina!!! This specimen consists of a cluster of unusually fine, intergrown muscovite crystals that host several scattered crystals of anatase!!! The muscovite crystals have lustrous, glassy faces on edge and many have large areas of gem clarity!!! The anatase crystals range in size up to 4mm and have sharp, lustrous faces!!! The anatase crystals are darkly colored but upon close inspection have a bluish hue!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or a scope there are numerous small areas of rutile to be found on the specimen as well, including some rutile growing in intimate association with anatase crystals!!! This specimen is from the collection of Florence Mecke and retains its original old label as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
