Description/Interesting Notes: A classic example of almandine garnet from Austria!!! This specimen hosts a striking single crystal of almandine garnet prominently perched on matrix!!! The crystal is complete all around and exhibits a text-book perfect trapezohedral habit!!! While the great majority of specimens from the Otz Valley exhibit a more simply dodecahedral habit and are present in a schist matrix, this specimen has a trapezohedral habit and a quartz matrix - indicating that it is likely from a different locality than the more representative Otz Valley specimens from Obergurgl!!! This specimen is quite handsome and showy in person!!! This specimen came out of old institutional stock!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
