A fantastic example of this rare and sought after gem species!!! This specimen consists of a sharp, classic sixling crystal of
alexandrite!!! This specimen actually had a small area of facet grade material removed, however it still displays fantastically!!! In fact,
it really speaks for the specimen's quality!!! This specimen has fantastic color change, going from purplish red in incandescent light to a VERY intense
emerald green in sunlight!!! Now, I must say, that for some reason digital cameras tend to "see" alexandrite crystals as bright purple when they don't
actually appear that way to the human eye - in person, the incandescent "purple phase" is very dark, not the way it appears in the pictures, while the
sunlight "green phase" is an off the charts intense bright emerald green!!! So, in short, the specimen will appear much darker under incandescent light, and
absolutely magnificent green under sunlight - or artificial fluorescent sunlight which is what I used in the one picture!!! All that being said, this is a simply magnificent
specimen and, if it were complete, would be into the four digit range!!! This specimen came out of an old collection and was acquired back in the 60's and retains its old label!!!
